    About Centennial Ice Rink - Wilmette in Wilmette, IL

    In 1968, Wilmette residents narrowly voted down a referendum that would have created a swimming pool, children's park, bath house/warming house, natural ice rink and toboggan hill in Community Playfield. However, the acquisition of the land that is now Centennial Park led to the construction of a sports complex facility instead. This facility now includes a pool, eight indoor tennis courts and two indoor ice rinks. With the addition of these amenities, Wilmette residents have access to an array of sports and recreational activities and facilities to meet their needs.

    Toddlers begin by learning to fall correctly, and get up alone off the ice before starting on the ice. We focus on balance and self-confidence as we introduce forward skills.

    Snowplow Sam 1 Age 4-5

    We introduce beginners with no previous instruction or experience to basic skills including falling, standing, marching and basic gliding. On-ice and off-ice instruction builds confidence. We recommend figure skates for this class; children in hockey skates must wear a hockey helmet with a face guard.

    Basic 1 Ice Skating Age 6-14

    Beginners with no previous instruction or experience are introduced to basic skills including falling, standing, marching, dips, basic gliding, forward swizzles, backward wiggles, beginning snowplow stop, and a two-foot hop. On-ice and off-ice instruction builds confidence. We recommend figure skates for this class; children in hockey skates must wear a hockey helmet with a face guard.

    Pre-Hockey Age 3-5

    Skaters learn introductory skating skills including fall and recovery, proper basic hockey stance, marching, two-foot glides, dips, forward swizzles, double c-cuts, and t-push to a two-foot glide.
