At Improv Playhouse Theater for Young Audiences (IP-TYA) we understand the importance of creating a safe and supportive community for young people to thrive in. We strive to create a safe and fun atmosphere for our students, and to ensure that every child is included and respected. We are proud to offer accessible, affordable, and quality performing arts programming for children from all backgrounds. Our commitment to engaging young people through the performing arts has been at the heart of our mission since our first production of Peter and the Wolf five years ago.

Affordable

A blast for all the students, but more than learning the forms of “Whose line…” our students participate in the games of theater that nurture skills in character development, spontaneity, giving and taking focus and ensemble (team-work) building. Beginning through Advanced Sections for Junior High and High School. 

Beg/Intermediate

Designed to give the intermediate/advanced Junior High, Teen and HS improviser expansive opportunities to develop and demonstrate their improv skills for diverse audiences and events.  Students will be challenged by pushing the limits fo conventional games, train in sketch comedy, long form and other performance “tools” of the trade.  Junior and Teen team members must be enrolled in classes to retain their position for performances. 

Advanced Comedy Teams & Ensembles

Camper families have the option of registering their child for full day camps should they fall within the Broadway Bound ages and are registered with a sibling or friend.  We are intentional regarding developmentally appropriate camp age groupings.  Broadway Bound Campers are combined with full day campers for their showcases which take place the last day of camp.

Improv Playhouse - Highland Park

It's a Wonderful Life was performed in radio format, and it was excellent. Each performer effectively portrayed various roles by using their voice. The cozy setting enhanced the mood.
