Cook and Craft Spring Break

We'll be cooking and crafting up lots of fun during spring break! Each day will feature a different cooking or craft activity. Monday: Eggs-quisite Eggs - Learn all about eggs as we cook up some delicious egg-based recipes and meet the hens that lay our featured ingredient. Tuesday: Buggin' Out - Discover the importance and dangers of insects on a farm as we search for bugs and make some out of recycled materials. Wednesday: Eco Prints - Explore the diverse shapes and patterns of things that grown on a farm and create a beautiful print using produce. Thursday: Bees and Cheese - Honey and cheese is a tasty combo! We'll whip up a delicious ricotta, learn all about bees and honey and then enjoy a snack of honey and cheese. Friday: Springtime Snacks - Nothing beats those first, fresh from the garden bites of springtime produce! We'll get a jump on the season as we explore recipes and tasty treats made from produce that emerges in the spring.

Grove History Hike

Experience a new kind of guided tour of The Grove grounds and historical buildings. Not only will you experience spectacular views of nature, you will also learn more about The Grove’s history as we hike to and go inside the Native American Indian Village, the Pioneer Log Cabin, the Blacksmith’s Shop, and the Historic 1856 Kennicott House. This is a relatively easy hike accessible to a wide range of walkers and a great way to learn about and appreciate the flora and fauna of Illinois and the history of The Grove.

Animals and Art

sportDuring each of these fun programs, participants will get up-close and meet a farm animal and then create a beautiful work of art inspired by their encounter. In April, we'll meet chickens and create chicken-inspired mobiles. In May, we'll meet a cow and create mixed-media portriats of our bovine friend.
