About Shelton Flag Football League in Shelton, CT

Shelton Flag Football (SFFL) is a modified flag football league that has been teaching young athletes football since 1971. Players wear full equipment and are taught proper blocking techniques, ball handling, and other basic football skills. Tackling is not allowed but during the flag pulling process, players can and do hit the ground. SFFL has a reputation for producing skill-orientated, open football players. Many players have moved on from SFFL to play HS football, earning All-State honors and one even going on to play professional football! The goal of SFFL is to teach football in a fun and safe environment, expecting all coaches, game officials, teammates, parents, and fans to contribute to this goal. SFFL is a unique league that offers a great football experience for all players involved. Players are taught basic and advanced football skills that are conducive to their level of play, such as downfield blocking and ball control. There is an emphasis to teach the game in a safe manner yet still provide an exciting experience for the players.

Micro Division

The Micro division is open to players ages 5, 6 and 7. NOTE: Five-year-old players MUST turn 6 by 12/31 of the current football season. This division stresses basic fundamentals of football with the goal of preparing the players for the next level of play and less on wins and losses.

Varsity / JV Division

The Varsity/JV division is a single team consisting of players ages 8-13. The team however is broken down into two sub-divisions. The Varsity level is the highest SFFL level. Players ages 11-13 may participate. Players age 10 may participate in Varsity at the discretion of the Head Coach. Advanced skills are taught. Competition at this level is much higher. Playoff and Bowl placement is determined by the win/loss record of the Varsity. The JV squad has players 8-10. All players aged 8-10 are eligible to play in a JV game. These players are part of the Varsity parent team/squad. Basic and advanced football skills are taught. The JV record plays no role in league playoffs or bowl placements.
