At Actors Gym, we know that all actors are unique and that no single technique can be applied to all. That's why our teachers have been studying the works of Stanislavski, Meisner, and other greats for the past 35 years. When we coach our students, our goal is to discover how each one learns and focus on their individual needs.
Our actors have different goals when it comes to performance, such as auditioning skills, cold reading, dropping regional accents, projecting, and improving movement. We believe that the best way to accomplish these goals is to build upon a solid foundation. This foundation is the actor's confidence in himself and his work. We understand that achieving these goals takes hard work, and our teachers are honored to be part of the process.
At Actors Gym, we strive to tap into the uniqueness of each of our actors to help them grow and reach their goals. We prioritize the individual needs of all our students, and we strive to build their confidence while helping them improve and perfect their craft.
What do we mean when we say an actor is being truthful? After all, they are acting like they're not the person they playing in the show; they haven't lost their loved one, been shot, or even defeated the evil villain. What they have done is learn how to personally relate to and empathize with the character's experience, behave in a manner, both physically and emotionally, that makes sense for the character in that particular situation, and created that behavior so specifically that we, the audience, can't help but identify with him or her in a meaningful way.
