Nikki Miller, a SCV resident, is the founder and director of the Academy Swim Club, dedicated to helping save lives in our beautiful valley. It all started after one life-changing incident in 1994. After their babysitter had left, Nikki and her husband Jim came home to find wet clothes and vomit on the deck. They soon realized their one year old, Dakota, had crawled into the spa while the babysitter was inside on the phone. Their barely four year old swimmer Garrett, unable to reach him or stand on the bottom of the spa, jumped in and pulled his brother from the spa, saving his life. This tragic event caused Jim and Nikki to dedicate their lives to water safety education. They wanted to do whatever they could to help prevent these events from happening again. Through their passion, they established the Academy Swim Club to provide life-saving education and support to the community. Thanks to Nikki and Jim’s hard work and dedication, the Academy Swim Club continues to help save lives today.
