At the Ontario Ice Skating Center, it's clear that the Vanderberg family had a vision. Established in 1957, it's the second oldest ice facility in Southern California and the first of its kind. The original "ICE BOWL" was the start of something special, and Milo Vanderberg quickly realized the potential of this new industry. He invented a variety of important equipment that revolutionized the skating industry, like an ice re-surfacing machine, an electric broom, and a skate sharpener. In 1983, the rink was taken over by Donald Bartelson, a longtime friend and skating professional. He was able to continue the legacy set by the Vanderbergs, and the Ontario Ice Skating Center remains a popular destination for recreational and competitive skaters. It's a testament to the pioneering spirit of the Vanderberg family, and it continues to be a great source of entertainment. At IceTown Carlsbad, we use the Learn To Skate USA program for our Skating Academy. The Learn To Skate USA program is designed to be the best beginner’s ice skating program that serves the needs of both the recreational and competitive skater. Through this program, our coaching staff helps skaters achieve their goals, whether they be Olympic fame or simply to enjoy the recreational benefits of skating. Classes are grouped by age and ability and depending on your level, classes are 30 minutes. There are five weeks during the year that classes are not held: Memorial Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year. The monthly payments are due every month and are based on an average of 47 classes per year.
