About Los Serenos de Point Vicente in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

Welcome to Los Serenos de Point Vicente! We are a volunteer organization dedicated to assisting and supporting the City of Rancho Palos Verdes’ objectives for the Point Vicente Interpretive Center. Our museum features exhibits on the natural and cultural history of the Peninsula, Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, Forrestal Nature Preserve/Ladera Linda Community Center, and the Trails at Trump National. Los Serenos volunteers provide interpretive and educational services to the community regarding the unique features and natural and cultural history of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and adjacent waters. We achieve this through docent-led tours, special events, workshops, and classes. Our goal is to provide meaningful experiences for all our visitors. We are proud to be part of the Rancho Palos Verdes community and we look forward to welcoming you to the Point Vicente Interpretive Center and other sites managed by Los Serenos. Fourth Grade Natural History Program

The Fourth Grade Natural History Program highlights the Palos Verdes Peninsula’s rich cultural history, diverse plant life and unique geology as it relates to the California State Standards for Fourth grade students. The program consists of activities and tours led by the docents of Los Serenos de Point Vicente in conjunction with a field trip to the Point Vicente Interpretive Center. The program includes a keepsake workbook for each student as well as pre- and post- testing material. It is designed to complement the student’s academic lessons while providing a sense of stewardship and pride for the wonders of the Peninsula. The program is open to all fourth grade PVPUSD Students.

The Fifth Grade Program

Forrestal geologyThe Fifth Grade Program is comprised of a field trip and a docent led nature hike in Forrestal Nature Reserve. The Docents of Los Serenos de Point Vicente provide visiting students with insights regarding the unique geology and special habitat of the Palos Verdes Peninsula as they relate to the California State Earth Science Standards for fifth grade students. The program is designed to enhance the in class curriculum and give students a local frame of reference and practical application for what they have learned. The program is offered to all fifth grade students.

Junior Docent Program

Junior Docents at Catalina IslandThe Los Serenos de Point Vicente Junior Docent Program is open to local high school students. The program was designed to complement the existing educational and support activities provided by the members of Los Serenos including museum tours, hikes support, whale wagon duty and special event participation. The program offers high school students community service opportunities and strives to instill an understanding and appreciation for the dynamics and fragility of the natural world around them, while also providing fulfilling and rewarding experiences for its participants. Beyond the eight weeks of training classes and 36 hours of annual commitment, the program currently includes activities such as field trips to the tide pools at Abalone Cove, opportunities to hone presentation and public speaking skills, as well as a chance to work with fellow members and RPVTV staff and volunteers on the Junior Docent Nature Series.
