About Camp Augusta in Nevada City, CA

At Augusta, we are blessed to be able to call a 200-foot-tall old-growth forest our home. On clear summer nights, the majesty of the Milky Way can be seen in the night sky, sparkling above us. This forest is part of the Sierra Nevada Ecoregion, which is known for its diverse temperate conifer forests, the most diverse in the world. At Augusta, we nurture our campers’ creativity and potential. We strive to foster an atmosphere of empathy and emotional intelligence, utilizing intentional speech, compassionate communication, and other well-researched social practices. Our campers are encouraged to act on their creative ideas and explore their potential. Finally, we are privileged to be surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of nature. We are in awe of the towering old-growth trees, the star-filled night sky, and the diverse temperate conifer forests that make up the Sierra Nevada Ecoregion. We hope that this natural beauty will inspire and nurture our campers’ creativity.

Day Camp

Everyone wakes up in a special way, cleans their cabins, showers (either morning or night), and moseys up to breakfast, prepared by a professional food service staff of nine people. All meals are hand prepared from scratch, whole foods, and not just thawed or warmed up or opened. Campers choose four activities the prior evening, and after breakfast they go off to their first two choices. In the afternoon, they’ll do their other two choices for that day’s clinics. In a one-week session, campers choose 20 activities in total (out of over 140). In a two-week session, campers do more than double that amount.

Mini Camp

For that first camp experience for the young child, we offer Mini Camp, which has a ratio of one staff per two campers. Cabin groups try out some of the camp’s activities together, but campers also have the opportunity to choose a few activities on their own. Games, arts and crafts, hiking, nature, swimming and more fill a camper’s day (see below). Understanding that this is possibly a child’s first time away from home, know that our caring staff has them safe and that they will have a wonderful time.
