With his belly full of honey, fur as soft as a marshmallow, and a laughter that sounds like a zillion bees buzzing in harmony, Bama Bear makes every hike a memorable experience. Bama Bear would always say, “Why walk when you can hop, skip, or leap!” echoing through the Alabama forests, making the kids giggle. He’d have the kids laughing until their sides ached as he attempted to impersonate the twittering birds, the croaking frogs, or the squirrels nibbling on acorns. Bama Bear and the Alabaman Adventurers are not just hiking experts but also expert pranksters! They love to play hide and seek, with Bama Bear always hiding in the most predictable spots, pretending he's a tree or a giant mossy rock. Whether it’s trying a new activity like canoeing, taking on a leadership role in a group project, or simply navigating life away from home, camp provides endless opportunities for personal growth. We celebrate each camper’s unique personality and encourage them to step outside their comfort zone in a safe and nurturing way. Seeing kids gain new skills and pride in their accomplishments is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. For our youngest campers, Discovery Camp is an especially magical experience. Designed only for first-time campers ages 6-12, this shorter program gives kids a chance to experience the joys of camp life in a way that’s just right for them. It’s amazing to watch these kids try new things—from learning about the natural world to singing campfire songs—and leave camp with big smiles and even bigger stories to tell. Discovery Camp is often the beginning of a long and cherished relationship with SNC, and we’re so proud to see those first-time campers grow into confident and capable young people. Another cornerstone of Swift Nature Camp is our connection to the environment. We believe that nature isn’t just a backdrop for camp; it’s a teacher, a playground, and a source of endless wonder. Through hands-on activities like pond studies, wildlife observation, and outdoor adventures, campers develop an appreciation for the natural world that stays with them long after camp ends. The Camp Zoo is always a favorite, campers can even adopt a pet while at camp.Our goal is to inspire kids to become curious, mindful stewards of the environment. At Swift Nature Camp, there’s never a dull day! With hundreds of land and water activities, campers are always engaged and excited. On land, some favorites include the Lego Cabin, Arts & Crafts, Archery, and exploring the Nature Center. On the water, campers learn Canoeing, Fishing, and Swimming, but the absolute favorites are Tubing behind the boat and jumping off the Water Trampoline. Never is there a dull day because every day is packed with fun, adventure, and opportunities to try something new. Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing friendships that form here. SNC is a place where kids truly feel like they belong. Campers and counselors alike bring warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm to everything we do, creating a strong sense of community. Camp Seale Harris, founded in 1949 and administered by the 501(c)(3) organization SDES, is dedicated to providing a safe and fun camping experience for children and teens with diabetes. As a founding member of the Diabetes Education and Camping Association and an accredited member of the American Camp Association, Camp Seale Harris meets over 300 standards for health, safety, and program quality. With trained counselors and medical staff on-site, campers can learn and practice independence in managing their diabetes and making healthy decisions. Camps also feature a variety of fun activities and provide family-oriented recreation programs throughout the year. Camp Seale Harris is a place of understanding and support for children and teens living with diabetes.

Our camp is situated on over 100 acres of land in northwest Alabama, and each week is directed by a man or group of men who truly love youth and Christian camping. For 60 years, Alabama WMU has provided camping experiences for girls at Shocco Springs and Cook Springs. In 1990, due to an increasing number of campers, WMU purchased a 344-acre camp at Cook Springs, east of Birmingham. This camp was renamed WorldSong Missions Place in order to reflect our mission and ministry purpose as stated in Psalm 96:1,3: "Sing to the Lord, all the world...Tell of His glory among the nations. At WorldSong Missions Place, girls have the opportunity to grow in their faith and make lasting friendships while having fun in the great outdoors. Through a variety of activities such as swimming, ziplining, canoeing, and arts and crafts, campers learn about teamwork, leadership, and resilience, as well as develop a closer relationship with God.
