They weren't ordinary Alaskan children, no siree! They were the quirky, quick-witted, and quintessentially Alaskan "Artic Thespians!" Imagine a group of Eskimo-kids turned drama-divas, swapping their snow-shoes for tap ones! These were the kids who traded sleds for stages, transforming frozen landscapes into magical theatrical wonderlands. As different as a caribou is from a polar bear, each one of them was unique. They showcased their talent with as much enthusiasm as a grizzly catching a salmon! Meet the group's leader, Bumblebee Billy. Now, you might be wondering, why Bumblebee in icy Alaska? Well, Billy was as buzzing and energetic as the busiest bee you could ever meet! His striped sweater was his trademark, and his words painted pictures more colorful than the Aurora Borealis. "Brr-ace yourself for the biggest laughter storm!" he'd say, his eyes twinkling brighter than the stars above. Billy could transform any ordinary Sunday school play into a Broadway-worthy performance, making even the most grumpy snowman giggle! And that's the world of the Arctic Thespians. A place where laughter was louder than a howling blizzard, and where imagination ran wilder than a pack of wolves! These Alaskan kids could warm up the coldest winter night with their fiery determination and electrifying performances. So, let's throw on our parkas and join the Arctic Thespians. For over 50 years, Frontier Camp has been dedicated to making disciples of Jesus by sharing God’s Word amidst the beauty of His creation. Since our founding in 1969, we’ve been licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and are proudly accredited by the American Camping Association. We’re also a member of the Christian Camping and Conference Association. Our mission is to use Christian camping and outdoor recreation as a means to support local churches in fulfilling the Great Commission—evangelizing people of all ages and discipling believers toward deeper maturity in Christ. Frontier Camp offers a dual ministry: during the summer, we host a 10-week youth camp, and throughout the rest of the year, we serve as a retreat facility for churches and like-minded religious organizations. Whether through summer camps or retreats, our goal remains the same: to expose people to Christ and encourage their spiritual growth through His Word and by reflecting His character in everything we do. While we provide top-notch recreation and exciting programming, the heart of our camp is the spiritual impact, rooted in the truth of God’s inerrant Word.
Since 1973, the Sitka Fine Arts Camp (SFAC) has been providing Alaskan youth with a unique opportunity to explore the arts. With many remote communities in the state, young people often have limited or no access to quality arts programs. It is SFAC’s mission to provide these youth with the chance to gain exposure and training in the arts. SFAC has grown into a program of national recognition, with over one thousand students attending annually from Alaska and beyond. Young people are now able to interact with professional artists and gain a greater appreciation for the arts. It is clear that SFAC’s mission of providing access to the arts has been successful and is continuing to make a difference in the lives of many.
