Gardening can be a great way to save money while providing healthy, fresh food to feed your family. Community gardens give everyone the opportunity to get in touch with nature and reap the benefits of growing their own food. Working together with other gardeners in the community provides a fun and friendly atmosphere, while also giving people of all ages, incomes, and cultures the chance to learn more about gardening from each other. Plus, by volunteering in the community garden, you'll be helping to keep the site running smoothly.
Not only can gardening provide a way to save money and get healthier food for your family, it can also be a great way to stay active and bond with your community. Community gardens are a great way to interact with nature and the many gardeners in the area, while also providing a unique opportunity to learn from one another. Plus, by committing to volunteer work at the community garden, you'll be helping to maintain and manage the site. So, why not get outside and join the community gardeners in creating a safe and productive outdoor space?
A field trip to the Troy Kids’ Gardens offers students hand-on experiences in gardening and ecology, and provides young people with an outdoor classroom where they can develop meaningful connections with the natural world. Our skilled garden leaders guide and encourage children through a variety of activities such as harvesting carrots, wrangling chickens, and cooking a healthy snack. We welcome groups pre-K through 8th grade, of any ability level.

FAMILY FIELD TRIPS
Bring the whole family out for a fun-filled afternoon in the garden or on the farm! Rooted is thrilled to offer Family Field Trips at the Troy Kids’ Garden (502 Troy Drive) and Goodman Youth Farm (5107 Sudbury Way). Each field trip will feature hands-on outdoor activities for parents and kids of all ages: harvest and cook a healthy snack, plant seedlings, explore the worm compost bins, or create outdoor art. At the Kids’ Garden, located on Madison’s northside, families can also visit with our resident chickens or explore the tall grass prairie. At the Youth Farm, on Madison’s east side, unique experiences include meeting our honey bees and packing fresh produce to donate to the local food pantry.
