About Sunset Playhouse School for the Arts in Elm Grove, WI
Since 1954, Sunset Playhouse has been providing the Milwaukee area with top-notch theatrical experiences. As the first theater in Wisconsin to be built entirely by a community theater group, we have been able to bring together a passionate group of volunteers and professionals to produce eight main stage shows a year. Our Marla Eichmann Studio Theater also houses our After Sunset Series with edgy dramas and musicals. Furthermore, our professional series includes Musical MainStage, with six concerts each season, SideNotes, a six-show cabaret series, and bug in a rug, a three-show children’s series. Our School for the Arts also offers a wide variety of classes and workshops for children aged 2-18. Through these initiatives, we strive to create a vibrant and diverse theatre scene for our community.

BeAKid
Groovin' with Pete the Cat (1st – 3rd grade)
Enter the fun and fantastic world of Pete the Cat. Students will use theater games and exercises to explore the basics of acting. Each session we’ll go on a groovin’ adventure using Pete the Cat books as a springboard and expand our ability to tell a story using the tools of every actor: our voice, body and imagination. Sessions will include character creation, theater terminology, costume and scene design, story creating, and a final showcase. The final session will include a showcase for family and friends to attend.

Page to Stage (age 2 -3 & 3 - 5)
Reading a story is magical; taking it to the next step is a ton of fun! Each day is a new adventure for students as they explore classic children’s books. Students will have fun with dramatic play, story enactment, imagination journeys, theater games, singing, music, and movement. Think of it as a little bit of acting, a little bit of singing, a little bit of dancing, and a whole lot of fun. Students will showcase their work on the final day of class for family and friends. Our 2 – 3 year old students will have fun as an adult joins them for class – please note that this class takes place in our lower level classroom and student and adult will need to access the space utilizing stairs.

Musical Theater (1st - 3rd & 4th - 6th grade)
This class introduces vocal technique, movement, and acting skills through some of Broadway’s most popular musicals. Working on material from the Great White Way will build the confidence and skill of young performers. Students will put their singing, dancing, and acting skills together to present a Broadway-worthy performance for family and friends on the last day of class. Explore the magic of musical theater!
