About Rock Hill Aquatics Center in Rock Hill, SC

At the Y, we believe that swimming is a critical life skill. Our experienced instructors teach children of all ages the safety/rescue skills and confidence they need to be safe and comfortable in the water. We understand that different age groups have different developmental milestones, so we tailor our instruction to meet the specific needs of each age group. We are proud to offer a safe and nurturing environment where children can learn to swim and experience the joy of water activities. We believe that by teaching children the important skill of swimming, we are helping them to gain the confidence and safety/rescue skills needed to enjoy water activities for a lifetime. Our instructors understand the unique needs of each age group and use that knowledge to help them develop their swimming skills.

Preschool

Students (Ages 3-5) learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills: swim, float, swim—sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit—and jump, push, turn, grab. In Water Acclimation, Water Movement, and Water Stamina, students are taught the recommended skills for all to have around water including safe water habits, underwater exploration, and how to swim to safety and exit in the event of falling into a body of water. Activities, games, and drills, geared to reinforce learning, are utilized heavily as students progress in this skill-based approach to swimming. In Stroke Introduction, swimmers are introduced to the four competitive swimming strokes as well as rescue skills and healthy lifestyle habits.

It is never too late to learn how to swim! Whether you have a fear of the water, or you started to learn as a child and want to master the skills like advanced strokes and turns, this course is fun and low key with you setting the pace. Whatever your skill level, we are here to help you swim confidently in a supportive environment. Participants may begin at any of the six stages in our swim program: Water Acclimation to Stroke Mechanics. These lessons are for anyone ages 13 and up.
