Shaolin Kempo Karate

Although Kempo Karate has its origins in China and Japan, it is very much an American style based on practical self-defense. In Kempo class students start with warm-ups and stretching followed by practicing fundamentals such as kicking, punching, blocking, and footwork. The theory of Kempo can be summed up into understanding the use of three fighting ranges: kicking (long range), punching (medium range), locking, and ground fighting (short range). The students learn practical self-defense techniques such as defenses against punches, kicks, or an attacker with a gun, club, or knife, etc. Defenses against being grabbed and other self-protection techniques are worked on as well in a safe structured environment.

Kung Fu

Kung Fu: the word conjures up images of Martial Arts Monks flying through the air doing seemingly impossible stunts using a variety of Menacing-looking weapons. Kung Fu, however, is something anyone can do and many people liken it to dance and ballet. It is the “art” side of Martial Arts. Kung Fu or Gong Fu is a Chinese word that means being skilled in something and has become synonymous with Chinese Martial Arts. In the Master's Studios Kung Fu program, students first learn fundamentals such as line kicks, stances, and stretching techniques. Then the students learn standardized Kung Fu forms such as Long Fist (Chang Chuan) and Southern Fist (Nan Chuan). In learning these forms the students focus on proper hand and arm position, stances, posture, where to look, and understanding the fighting strategy of the form.
