Once Upon a Ballet has been providing quality dance instruction since 2004. Its founder, Allyson Lewis, created a dance program based on original curriculum combining literature, classical music, costumes, and props into each class. Allyson’s passion for ballet was evident from the beginning; 65 students attended the opening session, and the school had over 120 students by the end of the school year. It is especially meaningful for Allyson when she sees former students still taking classes at OUAB.
Not only does Allyson strive to teach ballet technique and performance, but she also hopes to inspire a love of dance and the arts in her students. With the idea that dance can be a joyful art form, she encourages creativity and curiosity in all of her students. Even if they don’t pursue a career in ballet, Allyson believes that the lessons learned in the dance classroom can help them become successful in whatever they choose to do.
At OUAB, Allyson and her staff are dedicated to helping students reach their highest potential. It is an incredible experience to watch them grow and learn, and they take great pride in being part of that journey. Allyson’s goal is to give her students a special and lasting introduction to the world of ballet and dance. “If we can instill in them that dance is a joyful art form and inspire creativity and curiosity in all of our students, then we have done a good thing!”
