Girls Who Code is an international nonprofit on a mission to close the gender gap in the technology industry. In 1995, 37% of computer scientists were female. Unfortunately, that number has dropped to a mere 24% today and, without action, the percentage will continue to decline.
We know that the biggest drop off of girls interested in computer science occurs between the ages of 13 and 17. This is an alarming trend that Girls Who Code is working hard to reverse. Through initiatives such as their Summer Immersion Programs, girls can learn the fundamentals of coding and gain confidence in their ability to pursue a career in the tech industry.
At Girls Who Code, their goal is to provide girls with the resources they need to break into the technology sector. By investing in our youth today, they hope to create a more equal future for women in the tech industry.
