About Turning Pointe Dance Center

Turning Pointe Dance Center opened in July of 1993 with a dream of Julie Otani. She wanted to create a meaningful dance experience for all her students. With a dedicated and professional faculty, the environment created at TPDC is one of strong technique, self-confidence, and love of dance. For over two decades, TPDC has been the leader of dance education in the area. It is a place where fun, fitness and art come together, and where students become part of the family. Whether your child takes one class a week or many, they will feel welcome and supported. TPDC is a versatile and award-winning studio that has been a second home to thousands of students. Julie Otani has been the director of Turning Pointe Dance Center since its opening in 1993. She has worked to make TPDC a place that provides all its students with a meaningful dance experience. Her dynamic and professional faculty are committed to giving students a strong technique base, while fostering self-confidence and a love of dance. For over two decades, TPDC has been the area's premier dance education center. It is a place where fun, fitness and art unite, and a second home for many. Whether your child takes one class or multiple classes, they will feel a part of the Turning Pointe Dance Center family. Since 1993, Julie Otani has been the director of Turning Pointe Dance Center. Her life-long dream to create a meaningful experience for all her students has become a reality. With the help of her professional faculty, TPDC has been the area's leader in dance education for over two decades. The environment at TPDC is one of strong technique, self-confidence and love of dance. It is also a place of fun, fitness, and art, where thousands of students have found a second home. TPDC is an award-winning studio that welcomes all students, no matter how many classes they take, and makes them a part of the family.

Little Movers
This 45 minute class for ages 2 and 3, will introduce your active toddler to the basics of ballet, tumbling, and creative movement; while focusing on the development of listening skills to follow directions. This non- recital class is appropriate for both girls and boys. It is designed to engage your child in activities such as tumbling, creative movement and the basics of ballet. Props such as hoops, ribbon dancers, the trampoline and parachute are also incorporated. This ongoing program is offered in sessions throughout the dance season. There is continuous enrollment for Little Movers, please call 973-376-2111 to enroll your child! Register in person or by mail, we do not accept online registration for Little Movers.

Acrobatics/Ballet/Tap
This combination class is a fun and exciting introduction to the joys of all three styles of movement. This class focuses on simple movement to provide a positive experience for young dancers ages 3 to 6. Acrobatic floor work is taught in a fun and progressive method, while students also learn ballet fundamentals and basic tap technique.

This American dance form is characterized by rhythmic footwork that creates a tapping sound by utilizing the ball and heel of the dancer’s shoes. This contributes to the development of musicality, which will greatly benefit students in all other forms of movement. An emphasis on tempo and balance are stressed in tap class. Students explore music elements, learn note value, beat, accent, phrase syncopation, rhythms and patterns.This helps develop the sense of musicality and rhythm, which will help in all other dance techniques.
