    About Design District Art School, fashion,design and art classes. in Maplewood, NJ

    Design District is a unique art school focused on teaching the fundamentals of drawing and painting, while introducing kids and teens to art, culture, and history from all around the world. We strive to foster a love and appreciation for all types of art, and to create a space for young people to express their own creativity and individuality. We are based in an art-filled home studio in Maplewood, NJ. Classes are small or semi-private (maximum of 6 kids to a class), and for ages 5 and up. Students receive personal attention and productive feedback. We work to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, and nurture inclusivity and consiousness with everything we teach.

    Private lessons for fundamentals of drawing, observation-based drawing, and portfolio building

    Mini Art Camp for ages 5 to 8 TBA

    We will travel the world with art and will explore different countries and cultures. A fun and educational clamp where students learn drawing, painting and mixed media techniques, study elements of art history, and explore their creativity.

    Art and writing camp in August TBA

    A week long session during which campers will get to write and illustrate their own picture book. They will learn fundamentals for writing a story, including story structure, character development, and editing. Simultaneously, they will explore their creativity through art collages, painting, and drawing, and will learn how to use visuals to tell a story. Campers get to work with local professional artist and designer Anya Ellia, who has 30 years of experience in the art and design world, and who is devoted to guiding and inspiring the next generation of artists. They will also work with Anya’s daughter, Lilly, to learn how to tell their own stories. Lilly is a ninth grader at Columbia High School, and is a passionate and talented writer. She has won several awards for her work, including a Gold Key Award for her submission in the Scholastic Art and Writing contest.
