The YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts has a long history, beginning in 1892 when it was founded to provide safe housing, job training and support to women transitioning to working in the area mills and shops. Through the years, this agency has grown and now serves more than 15,000 women, children and families from towns throughout Merrimack Valley, Essex County and Southern New Hampshire.
The YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts is an affiliate of YWCA USA, America’s oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization. This organization works to promote social and economic change, and the YWCA of Northeastern Massachusetts is proud to be part of this effort. With over 125 years of experience, the YWCA of Northeastern Massachusetts is dedicated to providing education, resources and support to women and their families.
The YWCA provides a safe, enriching and fun environment year-round for children ages 5 to 14 at three sites, including our Main Building on Lawrence Street in Lawrence, our Enrichment Center located on Broadway Street in Lawrence and at our Haverhill site. Most of our programs operate after-school during the school year and all day during school vacation weeks and the summer. YWCA programs are fully licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Child Advocacy Program
The YWCA Child Advocacy Project (CAP) helps children ages 12 and under to recover from the potentially devastating effects of sexual abuse. Our trained staff also supports non-offending family members and caregivers, who are considered “secondary victims.” Researchers estimate that, nationwide, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are victims of sexual abuse each year. Last year alone, YWCA CAP served nearly 90 children and secondary victims.
