"Crispy Bacon" is a friendly, plump pig with a cool pair of shades, who's not just popular for his delicious name but is also the unofficial mascot of North Carolina. He loves to travel across the state, from the mighty Appalachian Mountains to the stunning Outer Banks, narrating tales of North Carolina's unique charm and spirit. But among all his stories, Crispy's favorite is about the kids who participate in the exciting activity of Archery.

These kids, whom Crispy affectionately calls his "Arrow Mavericks," are as diverse as North Carolina's landscape. Some are as solid and steadfast as the Great Smoky Mountains, while others are as dynamic and lively as the waves hitting Cape Hatteras. They come from various parts of the state, some riding on tractors from the countryside, while others whizzing in on skateboards from buzzing cities. 

It’s quite a sight, Crispy Bacon would giggle, when they gear up for archery. They put on their arm guards tighter than a space suit, hold their bows more delicately than a fresh doughnut, and aim their arrows with the intensity of a hawk eyeing a field mouse. No apple on any head stands a chance!

Crispy loves to watch them, especially when they squint one eye, stick their tongues out a little, and then release the arrow, only for it to zooooom across the air and hit the bullseye! At that moment, Crispy Bacon always gives an impressed oink and cheers, spilling his popcorn all over. Because in North Carolina, even a pig knows that hitting a bullseye isn't just about accuracy, but also about having a 'ham-load' of fun!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Swift Nature Camp an overnight camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. 

 I’m Lonnie, the Camp Director, and I’m thrilled to share what makes SNC such a special place for kids and families alike. For nearly 30 years, our mission has been to create an environment where children can grow, discover, and make lifelong memories. Here at camp, we focus on friendship, personal development, and a deep connection to nature—all in a fun, supportive, and adventurous setting. All this without cell phones
One of the things that sets Swift Nature Camp apart is our focus on fostering independence and confidence. Whether it’s trying a new activity like canoeing, taking on a leadership role in a group project, or simply navigating life away from home, camp provides endless opportunities for personal growth. We celebrate each camper’s unique personality and encourage them to step outside their comfort zone in a safe and nurturing way. Seeing kids gain new skills and pride in their accomplishments is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

For our youngest campers, Discovery Camp is an especially magical experience. Designed only for first-time campers ages 6-12, this shorter program gives kids a chance to experience the joys of camp life in a way that’s just right for them. It’s amazing to watch these kids try new things—from learning about the natural world to singing campfire songs—and leave camp with big smiles and even bigger stories to tell. Discovery Camp is often the beginning of a long and cherished relationship with SNC, and we’re so proud to see those first-time campers grow into confident and capable young people.

Another cornerstone of Swift Nature Camp is our connection to the environment. We believe that nature isn’t just a backdrop for camp; it’s a teacher, a playground, and a source of endless wonder. Through hands-on activities like pond studies, wildlife observation, and outdoor adventures, campers develop an appreciation for the natural world that stays with them long after camp ends. The Camp Zoo is always a favorite, campers can even adopt a pet while at camp.Our goal is to inspire kids to become curious, mindful stewards of the environment.

At Swift Nature Camp, there’s never a dull day! With hundreds of land and water activities, campers are always engaged and excited. On land, some favorites include the Lego Cabin, Arts & Crafts, Archery, and exploring the Nature Center. On the water, campers learn Canoeing, Fishing, and Swimming, but the absolute favorites are Tubing behind the boat and jumping off the Water Trampoline. Never is there a dull day because every day is packed with fun, adventure, and opportunities to try something new.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing friendships that form here. SNC is a place where kids truly feel like they belong. Campers and counselors alike bring warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm to everything we do, creating a strong sense of community. Whether it’s cheering each other on during a game, collaborating on a creative project, or sharing laughs around the campfire, the bonds formed at Swift Nature Camp are something truly special.

YMCA Camp Harrison at Herring Ridge provides an idyllic escape from the hustle of everyday life. For over 8 decades, Johns River Valley Camp and Retreat Center has been providing outdoor ministry experience to children, youth, adults, families, groups, and church communities. Nestled in the foothills of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, JRVC is situated beside a picturesque mountain stream with plenty of outdoor activities to offer. From waterfalls and hiking trails to an archery course, river activities, group interactive courses, and even a basketball court, the possibilities for outdoor fun and adventure are endless.

Southern Conference United Church of Christ’s outdoor ministry site, JRVC, has been providing a safe and exciting retreat experience since 1936. With its convenient access to the Blue Ridge Mountains and its scenic river, families and groups can enjoy an abundance of outdoor activities and adventures. Whether it’s playing a game of basketball or exploring the hiking trails, JRVC has something for everyone.

At Camp Kanata, campers will build lifelong friendships, discover new talents and explore the outdoors. Our traditional overnight camp experience is sure to create lasting memories and provide children with skills they can take home with them. 

Camp Kanata is the perfect place for kids to have fun and grow. With activities like archery, swimming, creative arts and water sports, campers can develop their skills and make lasting memories. Our 15-acre lake offers canoeing, kayaking and a 75-foot double waterslide, providing plenty of opportunity to explore the outdoors.

We understand the importance of safety and strive to provide a secure and supportive environment. Our 1:5 counselor-to-camper ratio ensures that each camper receives the attention they need and establishes a connection with our knowledgeable and caring staff.

At Camp Kanata, campers can develop their confidence and leadership skills while having a summer of fun. Our traditional overnight camp experience provides the perfect opportunity to make new friends and discover hidden talents. We look forward to helping your child become their best self and create lasting memories.

At Camp High Rocks, we understand the importance of providing boys with a safe and supportive environment to grow and learn. Our experienced staff help to foster growth, independence and resilience in our campers through our traditional, family-owned summer camp.

Finally, we aim to motivate our campers to approach the future with courage and a strengthened faith. We use activities and events to help our campers build their own faith in God, as well as to build a strong foundation of self-confidence. We want to ensure that our campers leave Quaker Lake with a positive outlook and a lasting sense of community.

Camp Willow Run is located on Lake Gaston in northeastern North Carolina, providing a breathtaking backdrop for a unique Christian camp experience. Campers can stay in actual boxcars that have been converted into heated and air-conditioned dormitories, as well as an authentic 1911 steam engine and caboose. The camp's three-fold purpose is to win youth to Christ, help mature those who are already Christians, and demonstrate that you can be a Christian and have fun.
