About Spence's Farm for Kids in Chapel Hill, NC
At Sunrise Community Farm Center, our aim is to create a place where our community can come together and appreciate the value of being part of something larger. Our goal is to nurture a sustainable model of a community farm that is inclusive of all ages. We hope to provide a place for people to learn and grow together, and to build a sense of connection to the environment, animals, and each other. This is a valuable opportunity to practice life skills that will help our community members thrive in the world today.

SPENCE'S FARM FOR KIDS
At Spence’s Farm, we offer a year round selection of healthy activities for your child. Spence’s Farm is a great place to play in a 20 acre outdoor environment with a large vegetable garden, 15+ horses, many chickens and bunnies, and more opportunities to learn! At Spence’s Farm, we focus on your kids' uniqueness and greatness. We empower children by challenging them to face the natural fears that come up, in nature and with animals. They are supported in facing these fears with our Mentors so that they come away with higher self-esteem, independence and a loving connection with the other kids, with animals and nature. Animals and Nature are our greatest assets in helping children learn important life lessons.

After-School Programs
Our After-School program is designed to give children the opportunity to decompress, learn-by-doing, and have fun. The beautiful, open farm environment helps children feel centered, calm, and happy. They are well-supervised, free to move around outdoors or in, help out in the barn, or just read a book!

Horsemanship Programs
The foundation of our riding program is called the CRAFTS of Partnership: Communication, Respect, Acknowledgement, Friendship, Trust & Setting Good Boundaries. We believe our animals are teachers and they are always at work empowering humans to have higher self-confidence and self-esteem. Our staff are experts at helping individuals get beyond the natural fears that come up when being around horses and around our other animals.
