At YMCA Camp Sea Gull and YMCA Camp Seafarer, we strive to create a positive and supportive environment for each and every camper. Our camps are a place where campers can explore their own potential, gain confidence and make lifelong friends and memories. Our experienced and dedicated staff are committed to providing the best possible experience for every camper.
Our mission is to empower young people to reach their highest potential through fun activities, exciting adventures, and personal growth opportunities. We pride ourselves on our commitment to providing an unforgettable camp experience for each and every camper. Whether they are sailing, swimming, playing sports, or exploring the outdoors, we know that Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer can offer an amazing summer camp experience that will last a lifetime.
Once campers achieve the Small Boat Sailor Certification and are interested in cruising, the next step is the Flying Scot program. Campers spend a few weeks working with other campers and a sailing instructor to learn the basics of sloop-rig sailing. They’ll drill as both skipper and crew, learning boat handling, nomenclature, capsize procedure, and more.
After Flying Scots, campers move up to Lightnings. Campers spend at least a full session reviewing boat handling, nomenclature, rudderless sailing, sailing mechanics and more.
The culmination of Sea Gull and Seafarer’s cruising program is the US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification. This includes classroom and on-the-water sessions with a written test and on-the-water practical required at the end.

ATHLETICS
Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer have ranks in basketball, soccer and lacrosse.
Additionally, Camp Seafarer offers volleyball. In each sport, ranks start with basic skills and as campers advance, they’re required to coach younger campers. This allows older campers to develop and hone leadership abilities along with athletic skill.
Soccer and lacrosse are modified to not require shinguards, pads or helmets. For lacrosse, players use softballs.

SWIMMING
YMCA Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer know there is a strong connection between being a strong swimmer and being a strong mariner. Confidence in the water and confidence on the water are critical elements of Camp. We strongly believe in safety on and in the water and improving the swimming ability of all our campers. Therefore, we assess each camper’s swimming ability when they arrive at Camp. Each camper receives a swim band and has the option for daily instructional swim lesson taught by a trained swim instructor. We understand that our campers have varying degrees of skill, and we make every effort to ensure the swim test and the daily swim instruction are positive experiences.
