In the hearty, bustling state of Michigan, which is shaped like a pair of mittens ready to catch a snowball, lives a gang of kids known as the 'Knitting Ninjas.' They're a fun, quirky bunch of youngsters who have replaced their video games and soccer balls for knitting needles and balls of yarn. Imagine that! Headed by their leader, a mysterious old granny named Nimble Nana, who possesses knitting needles faster than a hummingbird's wings and who’s so cool she wears sunglasses at night because "the moon shines too bright." These kids from across the lakes and forests of Michigan meet in their secret knitting den after school and on weekends to create the most outrageous and colorful scarves, beanies, and, yes, even socks! Their fingers dance across the yarn like a ballet of spiders, and not a day passes without someone wearing a new, knitted masterpiece. These kids have more yarn in their houses than furniture, and if you're not careful, you might just find yourself entangled in a rainbow-colored yarn-web! From the cherry-red cherries of Traverse City to the wild wolverines of Ann Arbor, these knitting ninjas stitch and loop, tying Michigan together with their creativity and camaraderie. DEBUT Creative Center & Theater-Studio is a dual-language (English–Russian) program where kids explore creativity, confidence, and self-expression. From theater and dance to fencing and stage performance, children can try new activities and discover their unique talents. Small class sizes let instructors give each child personalized attention, helping them feel comfortable, supported, and confident as they learn. Kids build artistic skills while also developing social confidence, teamwork, and poise on stage and in everyday life. Our programs celebrate each child’s individuality, combining fun, hands-on experiences with a focus on personal growth—all while keeping Russian language and culture an important part of the curriculum.
At our organization, we believe that art is essential for the creative health of our community. To ensure everyone has the opportunity to access art, we are facilitating in-person art classes, providing meaningful employment for art instructors, and supporting local artists with exhibits, gift shops, and customized in-person gallery opportunities. We also provide art appreciation outreach materials to educators and families. Additionally, we offer an inspiring and creative place for business, spiritual, and support groups to meet. Makers 'N Shakers offers a unique learning experience that helps kids explore the big world of creativity. Students of all ages have the opportunity to discover the many ways that creativity and innovation are connected. Through engaging and fun hands-on activities, students will get a better understanding of STEM concepts and visual design. At Makers 'N Shakers, kids can unlock their creativity and gain a deeper understanding of their world. Through collaboration and exciting hands-on activities, they’ll learn about visual design and STEM concepts.
