About Engine: Propelling the Creative Community in Biddeford, ME

For more than ten years, Engine has been fostering economic, social, and cultural development in Biddeford, ME. This 501(c)3 nonprofit organization connects local businesses, artists, and makers to create a culture and economy that is full of inspiration and connection. Through fun activities and creative projects, Engine encourages a sense of community and civic imagination. Engine’s programs are designed to be accessible and open to everyone. They are focused on youth and family-friendly experiences and offer free public events. By providing these resources, Engine hopes to bring people together to build a more vibrant community. Engine’s mission is to promote economic, social, and cultural revitalization in Biddeford. Through their creative programs, they have been able to bring people together to share ideas and learn new skills. By providing free and accessible activities, Engine continues to be a leader in promoting civic imagination and community engagement.

Programs at Engine: Propelling the Creative Community in Biddeford, ME

Youth Program

As of July 1, 2015, the Compass Project, became a program of Engine. The Compass Project was formerly a program of Spurwink, a behavioral health agency and prior to that, had its own non-profit status. The transition was facilitated by Spurwink to find a home with a more design-and-maker-oriented mission. Engine’s interest in supporting and growing the young maker community dovetails with the experiential and project-based learning focus of the program. The Compass Project’s shop is generously housed at Biddeford High School and be available to Biddeford students as well as students from outside the city.
