In the fantastical realm of the Pine Tree State, also known as Maine, a ragtag group of kids, known as the Lens Legends, undertake epic adventures with their trusty cameras. This wild and wondrous place, with its rocky coastline guarded by lighthouses, thick forests teeming with secret trails, and charismatic moose who grudgingly pose for photos, provides an endless source of inspiration for these young shutterbugs. 

Led by our hero, Shutterbug Sam, a ten-year-old with a camera in one hand and a lobster roll in the other, this lively bunch could be found braving the chilly Atlantic waves for the perfect sunrise shot, or trudging through the snowy slopes of Mount Katahdin, their breath fogging up their camera lenses. 

Shutterbug Sam, with his wild hair standing on end like a porcupine and glasses as round and large as camera lenses, was a sight to behold. His jokes, as corny as the fields in Aroostook County, always managed to bring laughter to the group, making their photographic journey even more memorable. "Why don't secrets work on a camera?" he'd ask, before delivering his zinger: "Because they always click!" 

The Lens Legends, these brave, camera-toting kids of Maine, with their images filled with the rugged beauty of their home state, painted stories of their adventures. The snapshots spoke a thousand words, each word etched with the laughter, camaraderie, and joy shared on their incredible journey. But above all, their photographs held the magic of their friendships, their shared love for their beautiful state, and their passion for photography, forever preserved in pixels and prints.

Dr. George Alexander Kohut, a literary scholar and educator with a vision to provide a healthy and character-building outdoor experience, founded Kamp Kohut in 1907. Coming from the heat and pollution of the city, he ran a boys' school in New York, hence calling it "Kohut's School for Boys".

At Kamp Kohut, we pay special attention to the individual qualities of each camper. We understand that each child has different needs and interests and we strive to make sure that all campers have a truly special summer experience. We provide close supervision and carefully orchestrated detail to ensure that each child’s camp experience is successful.

Abraham and Gertrude Krasker, a professor and teacher from Essex College, had a dream to own a summer camp of their own. They found the perfect spot, a farm nestled in Fryeburg, ME and opened the doors of Indian Acres Camp for Boys in 1924. Two years later, Forest Acres Camp for Girls opened two miles down the road. 

When Abraham passed in 1962, their son Dick took over ownership and management of both camps. With his wife Sandy, Dick ran camp until 1998 when it was purchased by Lisa and Geoff Newman. The Newmans were determined to keep the Krasker's legacy alive and with the help of Neal and Julie Waldman, their dream became a reality. 

Today, Indian and Forest Acres is a thriving summer camp thanks to the hard work of the Newman family. Almost 100 years after its founding, the camp continues to honor the traditions and vision of its founders, Abe and Gertrude Krasker.

Since 1936, Hog Island Audubon Camp has been providing adults, families and teens with a unique educational experience. Each summer, campers are led by respected naturalists and environmental educators, inspiring future scientists, educators, and conservation leaders. The special history of the camp and island will be explored in the coming years, as we celebrate 80 years of the camp’s existence.

Hog Island Audubon Camp

At Summer Camp, we understand the importance of providing a safe and supportive place for girls from low-income and foster homes. Our campers come from inner-city and rural areas and are aged 7 to 18. We give them the opportunity to take part in educational, challenging and fun activities, as well as to learn from positive role models. Our campers are also given the chance to build their skills for life in a place where everyone is celebrated for their diversity. We are a nonprofit and rely on the generosity of donors to provide full camperships each summer. 

Summer Camp is more than just a place to have fun! We are focused on creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere where all of our campers can thrive and learn. We strive to provide a safe and inclusive space that stands against discrimination and empowers our campers to grow and explore. We would not be able to do this without the support of our donors who help us give each girl the chance to attend our summer camp.

The Summer Camp

Chop Point is a non-profit Christian organization that operates multiple ministries around the world. We offer a summer camp in Maine for teenagers from all over the world, a K-12 school in Maine for local students, including a small boarding program, as well as a summer camp in Nicaragua serving disadvantaged children and functioning as a social service project for school and church groups from the U.S. To make our programs as accessible as possible, we rely on outside donations from former campers, students, staff, and friends. Their support has been essential in making major improvements to the grounds, facilities, and equipment. 

We encourage you to come and experience Chop Point for yourself. We welcome visitors any time and are always happy to show off the amazing work that we do here. Fees are kept as affordable as possible, so anyone can join in the fun. Come and see all that we have to offer!

They can step out of their comfort zone to gain skills in new areas, including individual sports to help them hone their unique skills and team sports to learn important lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership. Campers also enjoy a variety of waterfront activities like swimming lessons, water skiing, wake-boarding, sailing, canoeing, and kayaking. All the while, we promote creativity through arts and crafts, giving each boy the chance to express himself. Our goal is for each camper to leave camp as the best version of himself, having learned new skills and gained new confidence - that’s what we call the “Wildwood Way.” It’s a unique scheduling model that makes us stand out from other boys summer camps in Maine. 

At Camp Wildwood, we want each camper to have a unique experience that is tailored to their individual interests. Our customizable scheduling model allows our boys to choose from a wide variety of activities each day, giving them the opportunity to learn, explore, and develop their skills.
