About Massachusetts Historical Swordsmanship
Welcome to the Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) community! Here you will find a diverse and vibrant group of people dedicated to exploring the art, science, and spirit of the sword and other weapons as they were used in both serious combat and friendly encounters. Our members may attend different clubs, but they all come together to train and learn from one another.
At our classes, you can expect to receive expert, safe, and martially realistic instruction in the knightly longsword, the Renaissance rapier, and the classical stick, staff, dagger, and dueling sabre. Our instructors will lead you through a progressive system of instruction that builds overall fitness and coordination as you learn swordplay traditions handed down from the days when a person’s life might depend on skill with a blade and reconstructed from the detailed treatises left to us by fencing masters of the past. Come join us today and start your journey into a richer understanding of our shared martial history!

Fencing Lesson
Because this activity carries some inherent risks, we ask that students be over 16 years old. Students 12 and older are welcome in Worcester, but only if they bring an adult partner authorized by their parent(s) or guardian with whom to practice. Because PVFA in Easthampton is a separate business, we ask that new students be at least 18 years old.
