Suzuki Program

You can develop many life skills through music study. Not only can you learn to play an instrument or sing, but also at the same time, you are developing patience, commitment, perseverance, logical thinking, goal setting, and time management. All of these skills can help increase your confidence and self-esteem. a Japanese violinist and educator named Shinichi Suzuki began to apply the basic principles of language acquisition to the learning of music. This concept made it possible to teach young children to play an instrument in as natural a way as they learn to speak. By integrating listening, a nurturing environment, and parent participation, the Suzuki approach combines a method for teaching music with a philosophy that embraces the total development of the child.

Suzuki Piano

In-person offering for 2022-2023. The Suzuki Piano program provides young children with a natural, immersive method for learning piano. Often referred to as the "mother tongue" method, the Suzuki program teaches music to children in the same way they learn their "mother tongue" language. Children learn language by listening, then by imitating words, phrases, and finally whole sentences. It isn't until later that they begin to read and write their language. The same concept applies to music. Most students begin Suzuki between 4 1/2 and 8 years old.
