Beginners' Program

Teachers focus on the psychological & sensory perspective of the infant, paying specific attention to the developmental turning points in these critical stages of life. Taking notice of your child’s natural rhythms, teachers will honor sleep and eating patterns through a predictable day. Your child will have a clean, safe environment, allowing them to kick, crawl, and enjoy supervised tummy time. Sensory experiences that allow your child to touch, feel, and watch will also be introduced. Equally as important is language development at this age, where teachers will be repeating words and incorporating sign language for common tasks such as “eat,” “sleep,” and “diaper change.”

Children’s House

The Children’s House curriculum integrates math and language, along with important sensory and practical life activities. All of these lessons are not only designed to teach, but to build concentration and independence. Geography, science, and cultural studies are designed to show the students how we are all members of the human family. All students have music, art, and Spanish language studies as well. In the Children’s House classroom, every child is able to progress at their own pace, building mastery and forming the foundation for success.

Lower Elementary

Our Elementary program at Keystone Montessori School is a six year plan of study following the curriculum created by Italian physician, Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952), for children in what she termed the "second plane of development." Children who enter Lower Elementary (Grades 1-3), beginning in the second plane of development, can usually be characterized by maturing abilities of reason, growing comprehension of abstract concepts, imagination and passion for hands-on exploratory research. Our program is characterized by an emphasis on self-directed inquiry on the part of the child, immersion in a 'prepared environment' by the teacher as a springboard for learning, and the use of self-correcting materials that introduce complex and abstract concepts concretely.
