INFANT & TODDLER CARE

Quality infant-toddler care is exceptionally important since the first three years of life is a highly significant period in the development of a child’s brain. During this time the framework of a child’s brain is formed through the interactions the child makes with the people and things in his or her environment. If the interactions are comparatively limited then this results in the brain formation becoming relatively simple while varied and frequent interactions contribute to creating a more complex brain structure. Loving, frequent, and varying interactions with caring adults result in the structure of the child’s brain growing strong and becoming complex. This then sets up the child well to become progressively socially, emotionally, and cognitively involved with the people and things in his or her surroundings.

PRESCHOOL CARE

In all of our classrooms, we use stimulating and engaging learning materials so that your child explores and has fun learning. Since young children learn best through play and by direct interactions with objects they can see and touch, classrooms are designed as learning centers with hands-on manipulative objects, and a variety of materials that allow children to make decisions on their own, thus learning through playful interactions. These include blocks and toys, a dramatic play and art center, music, sensory play, a reading/book corner, a writing center, and a science center.

SCHOOL AGE CARE

The Guild of St. Agnes offers school-age programs in the Fitchburg, Gardner, and Worcester communities. The Guild transports from several schools to the center. Open to children enrolled in kindergarten through grade 6, these programs are designed to meet the full range of each child’s developmental, social and emotional needs. Homework assistance, enrichment, and recreational activities along with health and life skills training make up our daily activities. We know that children who are safe and feel nurtured become responsible and resilient adults, which are our goals and the foundation of our program.
