The core of MLKFS’s mission is to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals, families, and youth, where they can develop the tools to better their lives and reach their potential. MLKFS works to provide these individuals and families with the support they need to make their dreams a reality, while also empowering them to take charge of their own lives. MLKFS is passionate about helping the community, and offers a variety of services such as after-school programs, educational and college readiness assistance, and cultural experiences such as art, dance, and sports. Programs at Martin Luther King Junior Community Center in Springfield, MA

BeAKid
King’s Kids After School Program

Up to 130 children utilize the MLKFS youth center after school and participate in quality programming with the goal of helping them to become academically sound and nurturing their critical thinking skills. Students are offered homework help, character building, sports and fitness, literacy retention, and cultural experiences. Case management is available for students eligible for supportive services.

BeAKid
Night Spot Program

Empowers youth ages 13-22 to be critical thinkers and community builders while preparing them for life in high school, college, and beyond and encouraging a drug-free future. Offers advocacy services for court-involved youth. Pickup basketball is free to youth ages 14-26 living in the Mason Square area. Gender-specific youth development groups focus on prevention and early intervention.
