About Yuan Yen Do Karate Center Norwell
This martial art is designed to teach both defensive and offensive techniques. It includes a variety of blocks, strikes, kicks, fakes, feints, checks, deflections, evasions, grappling, sweeps, reaps, leg hauks, throws, ground fighting, and multiple attack scenarios.
This martial art is designed to engage all ranges of movement, from long range to close contact. Practitioners learn the transitions from one move to the next, how to use the opponent’s energy and momentum, and how to recognize the opportunities to counter attack. This system is designed to give children and adults the skills to respond effectively to any situation they may encounter.

White Belt
The goal of the White Belt class is to condition the members. The new class culture is fast paced and fun. While learning basic self-defense skills combined with fitness drills, members will build confidence and display Effort while staying active. The structured rotation of curriculum keeps the classes different and helps to build Balance in their moves and progression. As the curriculum becomes more familiar, members begin to gain Endurance and strength in their skills. This helps members to Focus on their performance so they may progress to the Blue Belt level where they will begin to apply their self-defense skills.
Blue Belt
The goal of the Blue Belt class is to begin applying the martial arts in a safe environment. We center the culture of the class on developing the member’s Coordination through hand sparring drills, target training, and the introduction of tiger tactics. Combined with the new class structure, this teaches each member the Timing needed to effectively use their skills. This level requires a great deal of Motivation and practice to obtain the necessary confidence to advance. But the most important lesson for each member to learn is the Respect needed to control their moves in class and when working with a partner to progress to the Brown Belt level.
Brown Belt
The goal of the Brown Belt class is to further the application of the martial arts in a faster paced and advanced setting. The new class culture combined with more intense fitness exercises challenges the member to build Strength. Rigorous and structured curriculum works to develop the member’s Power. Through repeated practice of deflect training, leg sparring drills, bo staff sparring drills, and tiger tactic application, and takedown drills, members learn to find Intent and purpose behind their moves. While using control when applying their skills in this intense environment, members will learn to find the Courage needed to progress to the Red Belt level.
Red Belt
The goal of the Red Belt Class is to refine and perfect the member’s application of the martial arts and prepare them for Black Belt. We center the culture of the class on safely improving the member’s Tenacity during tiger tactic applications, more advanced takedown drills, bo staff leg sparring drills, and the introductions of the tiger fighting form. Combined with the new class structure and curriculum, we work to develop the intensity and Discipline needed to progress to the Black Belt level. Members will learn to eliminate the transition between their moves during application and build the Efficiency needed to confidently perform the more challenging curriculum. Once the member has shown the Knowledge and understanding of the required curriculum and control, they may progress to the Black Belt Level.
