The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc., located in North Oxford, MA, is a unique and special place for children with diabetes and their families. Our year-round camp, retreat, and conference center provides an atmosphere of learning and shared experiences for over 2,000 people annually. Our goal is to teach children and their families how to manage diabetes so they can live healthier lives. We collaborate with a number of major medical centers, such as UMass Memorial Health Care, Diabetes Research Institute, Joslin Diabetes Center, and American Diabetes Association, to provide the best possible care. At the Barton Center, we strive to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere for children with diabetes and their families. We offer a variety of programs, such as Clara Barton Resident Camp for girls, Camp Joslin for boys, Vermont Overnight Camp, coed Adventure Programs, Family Programs, and coed Day Camps in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Our programs are designed to provide a fun, yet educational experience, and our dedicated staff and volunteers are here to provide support and guidance. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees.

Adventure Programs

During our Adventure Programs, led by certified guides and diabetes professionals, campers experience a voyage of self-discovery and adventure. Daring teenagers will face both physical and mental challenges and work as a team as they bushwhack their way to both group and personal success.

Clara Barton Camp

Days are filled with sports activities, arts and crafts, swimming, talent shows, casino nights, Hike to Heck (a mudhole), campfires, an occasional outdoor overnight, dances with the boys from Camp Joslin, diabetes education game shows, boating, hiking, occasional field trips, and so much more. Activities vary from week to week. For 89 years, girls between the ages of 6 and 16 with type 1 diabetes have enjoyed the life-altering experience of Clara Barton Camp, with access to more than 200 acres, in North Oxford, Massachusetts. Most return year after year.
