Programs at Studio North Dance Arts in North Adams, MA
BeAKid
Creative Movement - ages 3-5
Our signature introductory program for pre-school students, this class develops coordination, basic motor skills, musical awareness, and listening skills while helping students tap into their natural creativity in a stress free and fun environment. Boys and girls gain a sense of joy and accomplishment while learning how to be in a dance classroom. Sharing this positive experience with their peers, students gain an understanding of teamwork that positively benefits and influences their everyday lives. Basic ballet and tap dance skills are combined with songs, games, and movement skills to engage the students’ attention and imagination in class.

Pre-Ballet ages 5-7
Pre-Ballet introduces our budding ballerinas and danseurs to the ballet barre in addition to centre and traveling technique. Use of breath, head and eye movements and full body coordination are encouraged. Students become part of a centuries old tradition through this Cecchetti-based program, learning proper technique and vocabulary.

Pre-Jazz/Tap
Students in Pre-Jazz/Tap are introduced to the beginning fundamentals of Broadway-style jazz and tap in this 2 year program. In jazz, we explore the concepts of isolation, opposition and using the upper and lower body in unison. Tap work focuses on rhythm development and musicality while learning how to use the 2 parts of the tap shoe independently. The recital dance alternates between jazz and tap each year. A ballet class is highly recommended in conjunction with Pre-Jazz/Tap.
