For over 30 years, Texas A&M University has been offering dance classes as a way for students to fulfill core physical education requirements. In 2002, the university introduced a new Dance Minor program, providing classes in ballet, modern, history, production, and composition. Five years later, the university established the University Studies: Dance Concentration degree, giving students an interdisciplinary degree opportunity. Building on Texas A&M's existing reputation in the sciences, the Dance Program developed the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree with a Dance Science track. Through this degree, students are able to blend the artistic elements of dance with the science behind it. Graduates of the program may go on to teach dance, perform professionally, or attend professional schools in physical therapy, dance science, or dance therapy. In 2019, the Dance Program began offering students the opportunity to use elective hours in their degree towards teacher certification, professional schools, or a focus on dance performance. This has been a great way for students to explore their passions and build skills to prepare them for the future.
