About Medford Recreational Hockey in Medford, MA

The Medford Recreational Hockey Association, Inc. was established in May 1975, following the merger of the Medford Youth Hockey Association, the North Medford Hockey Club and the West Medford and Hillside Hockey League. The initial constitution and bylaws were adopted and presented at the first Annual Meeting prior to the start of the 1975 season. Since then, the Medford Recreational Hockey Association, Inc. has been dedicated to providing a safe, enjoyable and affordable hockey experience to the youth of Medford and the surrounding areas. The organization is committed to upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship and providing an opportunity for children to learn the values of fair play, teamwork, and respect for others.

Programs at Medford Recreational Hockey in Medford, MA

BeAKid
Skate Program

Boys and girls are taught to skate at an increased speed level, always working on snow plow and two skate hockey stops, pivoting while skating, turning in different directions, skating backwards later during the season, the introduction of hockey sticks. Boys and Girls are taught stops, turns, backwards, circles and many speed drills with hockey sticks and with pucks. Puck handling, puck shooting and cross ice scrimmaging teaches the early stages of the game of hockey in preparation to be called up to the In-House Advance Level - Learn to Play Program. The Learn to Play Program consists of (4) teams. Each team begins with 11-players and grows to 14-players during the season. The Mite-Squirt age players the play both full ice and cross ice during the season.

Play Program

The Learn to Play Program consists of four (4) In-House Level teams with a roster of between 9 and 11-players per team. With planned call ups from the Mite Intermediate Clinic in December and January, the teams will increase their rosters to 14-players. Boys and Girls graded onto the Learn to Play Teams typically range from 6-12 years old. At signups and during the first on-ice evaluations, all players are placed at the various levels of In-House by their initial skating ability.

Travel Team Program

Our travel team ability level girl's can tryout and be rostered on a Medford Youth Hockey travel team or tryout to be rostered on a Mass Bay Warriors (Medford-Burlington-Woburn Partnership) team and play in the Middlesex Yankee Conference Girls Hockey League.
