In 1986, a group of talented artists, community members, and parents in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, came together to form KidsArts. Their goal was to provide a place for children of all backgrounds to learn and experience visual and performing arts. The first home for the program was the Jamaica Plain Firehouse Arts Center. However, in 1994, the program was forced to close due to financial issues, leaving the future of KidsArts uncertain.
Fortunately, a group of 30 parents came together to save the program, and, within three weeks, moved it to the First Church JP. KidsArts was then incorporated in 1995 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, allowing it to continue as a community-based after-school arts program. Today, this program is still running strong, providing a safe and creative environment for children to learn and explore the arts.
KidsArts Afterschool offers a playful and creative environment for students ages 5-12 years old to relax, play with friends, and make art.
Students have time for snacks, homework, free time, a circle, and one hour of creative instruction.
