About Setting the Barre Dance Academy

Our professional and well-qualified teachers have studied and trained in a variety of settings, and they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to each class. At our academy, all ages are welcome – from three-year-olds to adults. We offer an array of classes in a variety of dance styles, from ballet to hip-hop to modern. Our annual recital in the spring is a highlight of the year and is sure to be a memorable experience for all. In addition, our dance companies have the opportunity to participate in several performances throughout the year. At Setting the Barre Dance Academy, our goal is to provide an atmosphere of creativity and artistic excellence. We strive to inspire our students to become the best dancers they can be and to help them reach their fullest potential. We are confident that our classes will provide a positive and enriching experience for all of our dancers.

Ballet
Ballet is the foundation for all styles of dance, it incorporates graceful movements, agility and above all proper technique. We teach Legat (Russian Classical) ballet technique and focus on proper body placement to ensure technically proficient dancers. We encourage the use of musicality and expression in this style of ballet.

Musical Theater
This class is based on popular Broadway Jazz and/or Tap styles. Dancers will draw inspiration from their favorite Broadway shows, character work is emphasized.

Pointe
Dancers begin pointe work after completing several years of ballet training. Pointe work is an style of ballet that requires great strength and agility in the feet, dancers wear pointe shoes to allow them to rise to the tips of the toes while being supported by strong ankles. Pointe classes are taught en pointe both at the barre and progressing to center work. Dancers need permission from Sam to begin classical pointe training.
