About Empow Studios - Cambridge STEM Summer Camp

Today's generation of children is growing up in a world of digital, virtual, and robotic environments, and Empow Studios is helping to make sure they are well-equipped to make the most of them. With their hands-on, creative, interactive play experiences, kids are able to gain an understanding of STEM topics, while also developing important skills such as social collaboration, self-actualization, and creativity. At Empow Studios, we believe that passion, engagement, and play are all essential elements of learning and understanding, and that by providing kids with these experiences we can help them to carve out potential future pathways. We strive to empower kids with the tools they need to not only navigate their future landscapes, but to also be active and intentional creators of it.

INTRO TO 3D PRINTING

If your child has an interest in architecture, engineering, sculpting, or 3D art, we have the perfect new camp for them! In this introductory camp, campers will build a foundation in 3D modeling by designing their own models and modifying existing models. Campers will also learn to master their 3D printing skills, including learning how to use and troubleshoot a 3D printer. This is a great opportunity for campers to learn hands-on product design and 3D printing while having fun. Prerequisites: None.

TECH & DESIGN EXPEDITION

For middle-schoolers looking to explore a broad range of options, or those who want to dive a bit deeper into two or three topics, this is a perfect place to start. We will experiment with Video Game Design, Digital Animation, Stop-Motion Animation, 3D Art & Printing, Architecture, and Programming Fundamentals in Scratch and Python. Campers will create several small to medium-sized projects, such as creating and printing a 3D model, producing a stop-motion animated film, or designing a playable video game. Campers build the foundations for success with technology: the inspiration, confidence, and enthusiasm to continue learning and creating!

ROBOTICS AND CODING WITH SPHERO

The possibilities are endless as campers explore robotics and programming with Sphero RVR! Drive your all-terrain robot right out of the box without worrying about obstacles or uneven surfaces. Then start programming this highly customizable robot to build the robot of your dreams. Sphero RVR is packed with tons of advanced robot sensors that campers can code and hack. Play games, navigate your robot through a color maze or work with other campers to build obstacle courses. Use your imagination to go anywhere and do anything with your new Sphero RVR! Sphero RVRs will be provided for use during camp; their purchase is not included in the camp fees. Campers interested in taking one home at the end of the week should select the Sphero RVR add-on at check-out.
