During the early years, hands-on play and activities that stimulate all the senses can help them learn and grow. They may start to interact and play with other children, and may even start to name their feelings and use language to express themselves. Intellectually, they will learn language, increase their attention span, and work on complex problem solving. Physically, they’ll gain strength, dexterity, and agility. Through challenging, yet appropriate activities, children can build true self-esteem and feel a sense of accomplishment. Toddler Class

Our Toddler Class serves children who are 2-3 years old and meets on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. In January, the Toddler children stay until 12:45 for lunch together. The Toddler Class is a gentle introduction to school life. Since this is often a child’s first time in a group setting, our teachers help them feel secure in their relationships with adults and peers easing their transition to their first school community. They encourage pro-social skills like sharing, caring and taking turns. The curriculum is hands-on and capitalizes on sensory learning experiences that enhance understanding. There are finger paints, markers and easels for creative expression and the development of fine motor skills; sand, water and play dough for exploring cause and effect; chunky puzzles, blocks, and other manipulatives to help develop spatial awareness; dress-up clothes and props to encourage children to enact scenarios of family life. The Toddlers often cook their snack together and the surprise on their faces when they crack an egg is truly a delightful sight.

Younger Class

The Younger Class serves children who are ages 3-4 and meets on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:45 AM to 11:45 AM. Younger Class children are eligible to enroll in Lunch Bunch until 1 PM and Stay & Play until 2:45 PM. The Younger Class schedule provides a comfortable blend of outdoor play, circle time, free choice time, special activities and snack time that engages the children’s growing independence, interest in new experiences and vivid imaginations. Each morning, teachers guide children as they pursue their ideas and interests while working independently, and in large and small groups. Though the theme of separation and connection is still relevant as children learn how to say goodbye to their parents, their interest in forging friendships with their classmates grows. Throughout the year, teachers nurture their desire to reach out to their peers and support them in navigating the seas of more sophisticated social relationships.

Older Class

The Older Class serves the needs of children ages 4-5 and meets Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 AM to 11:45 AM. Older Class children are eligible to enroll in Lunch Bunch until 1:00 PM and Stay & Play until 2:45 PM. In the Older Class, children begin each year by witnessing the metamorphosis of a Monarch butterfly – a process that mirrors their own amazing change and growth. With teachers nearby to guide them, they explore the social complexities of their friendships. Growth in their language and cognition now allows them to solve problems in a variety of areas. Dramatic play scenarios become involved and sophisticated and often last over the course of a few days. Often times, the children create boats, cars and shelters using unit blocks and large hollow blocks and incorporate these structures into their play. It is not uncommon to see five or six children “going on vacation” with babies in tow, and a stash of pretend food to last for many days.
