Oak Park String Academy (OPSA) was established ten years ago by Meg Lanfear, a violinist, and local mom. Meg envisioned a music school that would provide families in the Oak Park area with conservatory-level music lessons, as well as a supportive community. OPSA students have since earned accolades and awards for their dedication and hard work. Our program encourages a lifelong relationship with music, and provides parents with resources to foster cooperation and joy between them and their children. We offer an enriching experience for our students, teaching them the technical and musical skills required of them, while building their discipline, critical thinking, and character.

Homeschool Families
We offer daytime classes to homeschool families and will often create a daytime class just for families wishing to attend classes during the day. In addition to our regular Suzuki instrument curriculum, we offer “general music” classes during the day for families who want children to receive an excellent, non-instrument specific music education. General music classes are taught in a “Dalcroze style“, which includes lots of movement, joy, and discovery of musical topics such as form, phrase, theory, score reading and much more.
To offer homeschool families a fun way to provide their children with music education. The Suzuki Method emphasizes several techniques and philosophies which often align with the goals of homeschooling parents.
