Laura Doherty has been delighting families with her acoustic-folk music for over a decade. After picking up the guitar at age 16, she moved to Chicago and joined the teaching staff at the Old Town School of Folk Music. There she became the Director of the popular Wiggleworms program and, in 2009, decided to go full-time with kids’ music.
Her dedication to crafting sweet, folk-inspired songs has been rewarded with critical acclaim. Her first album Kids in the City won the Gold Parents' Choice Award, while her follow-up albums Shining Like a Star and In a Heartbeat both won the Silver Parents' Choice Award. Her latest album Animal Tracks (2016) is a collection of her most engaging animal songs, and her newest album High Five (2018) has earned the Gold Parents' Choice award and has been receiving lots of radio play across the country. It touches on themes of friendship, family and childhood.
Laura Doherty has been sharing her love of music with children since 1998 when she joined the teaching staff at the legendary Old Town School of Folk Music. After serving as director of the school's early childhood Wiggleworms program for more than a decade, she continues to teach today across the Chicagoland area. Her original songs and teaching philosophy engage the whole child - from working on gross motor skills with dance moves to easy to sing-a-long lyrics that help children learn about colors, animals and the world around them.
