At OMA Martial Arts Academy in Riverview, FL, we are proud to provide families with a safe and supportive environment in which to learn the ancient art of Shotokan Karate. Our academy is family-owned and operated, and is affiliated with Bushi-do Karate Kai Shotokan PANACO, led by the esteemed Shihan Cecilio Ortega. Shihan Ortega is a 8th Dan, a member of the JKA (Japan Karate Association), and a founder of AFMA (American Federation of Martial Arts). With more than 40 years of experience and academies throughout Panama, Argentina, NYC, and Florida, Shihan Ortega continues to guide the instruction of OMA’s Sensei, Rafael Oliver, in Shotokan, Weapons, and Self Defense. At OMA Martial Arts Academy we strive to ensure that families in Riverview, Valrico, and Brandon have access to a comprehensive martial arts program. Our instructors are dedicated to providing students of all ages with quality instruction in Shotokan Karate, Weapons, and Self Defense. We are passionate about helping our community learn and grow through martial arts and look forward to providing families with an enjoyable and enriching learning experience.

OMA Cubs Class

Young children class from 5 - 7 yrs. old that teaches children how to participate in a group physical activity, to stay on task, to develop their physical abilities, coordination, & to strengthen their attention span. Karate training increases attention span and self-confidence.

Beginner's Class

The beginner's class is for students of ages 8 to 13 yrs. old. This class is for belt ranks: White to yellow with white. This beginner's class teaches more than martial arts; we teach safety & coordination skills, develop agility, body awareness, and strength through fun activities, kumite techniques, and Kata's. Karate training increases attention span and self-confidence.

Intermediate & Advanced Class

This class is for 13 yrs. old and up, belt rank solid yellow and up. This class is organized by skill level and corresponding rank. From intermediate to advanced, this class will emphasize physical development and the qualities of good character. This class is taught in a traditional manner, includes physical conditioning exercises, stretching, Self-defense, along with Shotokan Karate Techniques appropriate to the specific age and level.
