Now, leading the pack was a quirky little character, named Flip Flapjack. Don't let his funny name fool you! Flip was no pancake enthusiast. Instead, he was a gymnastics ninja, always seen somersaulting his mornings away. He could do cartwheels faster than a spinning top and his splits were so perfect, you'd think he was made of rubber. His favorite spot? The balance beam, of course! He would tiptoe on it as if dancing on a rainbow. Then there was his gang of gymnasts, who were as zany as they were talented. Sally Salto, who could do backflips as if she had springs for legs, Benny Backspring, who could bend backward and touch his toes to his head, and Tilly Tumble, who would perform twirling somersaults that would make your head spin. Together, they were an unstoppable squad that transformed the Florida Gymnastics Club into their playground. Every day was a circus of flips, twists, and laughs. They were the talk of the town, each with their unique style and infectious energy. In the state where the sun is as bright as the kids' smiles, Florida's little gymnasts, led by the fearless Flip Flapjack, showed everyone the true meaning of fun, friendship, and some fantastic gymnastics. In 1999, Lane Beatty, a physical educator, had a vision to create a new type of summer camp for working parents in Naples, Florida. The Sports CLUB concept was a revolutionary idea that allowed children to choose from a variety of activities throughout the day, based on 45-minute rotations. Lane’s concept was based on the type of sports and games he had played growing up in a small town in Northern Michigan. After a successful summer camp, parents asked to have the same choices during the after-school program as well. Thus, the non-profit organization Sports Camp, Inc. was formed and the after-school Sports CLUB program began. Sports CLUB is dedicated to helping children achieve a balanced lifestyle that includes equal emphasis on academics, the arts and athletics. The program provides students with homework help, arts and crafts, and a variety of physical activities between 2:45-6:30 p.m. Today, the program has grown significantly and is making a positive impact on over 1000 students in Collier County.
