The Caruth Camp has been around for many years, providing a wilderness camping experience to boys who otherwise might not have been able to participate in residential childcare. Experiential learning opportunities were the cornerstone of the program, and it was successful in its mission, albeit limited in scope to 18 participants. In 1997, the camp underwent a transformation, shifting its focus to the Project Harmony program.
Project Harmony is a 5 day leadership retreat for middle school students, aimed at teaching children communication and problem-solving skills while addressing any racial tension or conflicts within the schools. During the retreat, participants undergo intensive training in conflict resolution, cultural diversity, environmental awareness, group-building exercises, academics, and camping. This highly successful program has been nationally recognized, and combined with the Summer Camp and other family programs, serves thousands of boys and girls each year.
