At Special Olympics Florida, there is no down time! Our athletes are engaged in physical, cognitive, and social activities all year long. The positive impacts of the program are undeniable, as these activities help the children to grow and develop in a number of ways. Furthermore, this program is an excellent way to raise awareness about the Special Olympics program, helping to introduce the available resources and support to Special Olympics Florida families, agencies and schools.

CAMP SHRIVER
One of the most important aspects of Camp Shriver was Eunice's insistence there be an interaction between children with special needs and typical children. One of the latter was Tim, her son, just three years old when the camp began. Tim was paired with a young boy with intellectual disabilities named Wendell. They swam together, ate together, ran together and sometimes got in trouble together.
"The thing about Camp Shriver was that it was fun," says Tim. "That's what my parents are good at it--making important things fun."

SPORTS
At Special Olympics, we believe that sports can teach us all important lessons. When we train and strive for a goal, it teaches us to dream. When we struggle, it teaches us determination. When we win, we find joy. And if we lose, we can find the strength to try again.
Our sports events bring together a large and inclusive community of athletes, supporters and families, coaches, volunteers and many others. The athletes are at the center of it all. They become the heroes — to the shared joy of themselves, their families and their communities.
