About Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, Inc. in Boca Raton, FL
For over 35 years, the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center has been a staple in our community. Founded in 1984, the Friends of Gumbo Limbo, a 501(c)(3) conservation organization, was created to support the Nature Center and the precious coastal hammock. In the beginning, the Friends of Gumbo Limbo provided a silent background partner for the Nature Center and its mission of coastal preservation. A New Opportunity In 2010, a new opportunity presented itself. The amount of sick and injured sea turtles in the area had steadily increased, and the Friends of Gumbo Limbo saw a major opportunity to help. Caring for these turtles is a costly endeavor, and the Friends of Gumbo Limbo were eager to help the Nature Center by rallying donors and financial support to ensure the mission of turtle rehabilitation could continue.
