About Hungerford Nature Center & New Britain Youth Museum in New Britain, CT

At the New Britain Youth Museum, we strive to provide engaging educational experiences and unique opportunities to explore and learn. Our school programs, which cover a variety of topics, provide hands-on, interactive learning for students of all ages. We also offer interactive exhibitions and museum collections to give visitors a glimpse into the past and inspire creativity, innovation and life-long learning. Our mission is to strengthen our community by inspiring children and young adults to excel in school and to foster a passion for the arts, humanities and sciences. Finally, the New Britain Youth Museum at Hungerford Park, Kensington is dedicated to environmental education, biological and animal sciences, and STEM. We offer a variety of activities, programs and initiatives aimed at connecting people with nature and providing opportunities to explore and learn about our environment. Our goal is to help young people gain an appreciation for the environment and cultivate a sense of stewardship for the natural world. The New Britain Youth Museum is committed to providing quality educational experiences and opportunities for children, youth, families and teachers to explore and learn about the world around them. Pre K—K Programs

Makes Sense We have five wonderful senses and we will discover what they are and how we use them. This interactive program will help students better understand how our senses help us and how they help animals. Where Do You Live? Come with us as we explore different Connecticut habitats. Our interactive and hands on program will help students think about the habitats around them and the animals they might find in each one. Story Time Series K- 1st Grade Sit, listen and relax as a story is brought to life right inside your classroom. Fun puppets are used and some friends from the book will be along.

K-5th Grade Programs

Reptiles K – 5th NGSS: ESS2.E, LS1.A-C-D Our scaly friends can not wait to meet you. We will look at snakes, lizards and turtles and all the incredible adaptations that have helped them survive since prehistoric times. Locomotion in Nature K – 5th NGSS: LS1.A-D, PS2.A The world is moving all around us and we will jump in to explore how different creatures move in it.
