Buster, who earned his nickname after a hilarious incident involving a banana peel, a boxing glove, and the mayor's toupee, has a genuine knack for making even the toughest workouts seem like a laughter-filled picnic. Buster and his Boxing Brigade train under the watchful eye of their coach, a retired boxing champ known as 'Knockout Ned'. Ned, as muscular as a mountain and as soft-hearted as a marshmallow, has more boxing stories up his sleeve than there are stars in the California sky. And each of these stories, strange as they may seem, carries a valuable lesson. I had no idea that my ‘backyard boxing’ would grow to what it is today. Maxwell’s Boxing has grown significantly since then, and we now have a strong base of dedicated students learning the art of boxing. Through hard work and dedication, we have been able to provide a space for individuals to learn the basics of boxing, improve their skills, or even compete in competitions. We are proud to offer a ‘home-grown’ experience to our clients and are constantly evolving to bring better experiences to our students. With a strong focus on safety and technique, we are confident that our students will be able to take their boxing skills to the next level. In the mid-1950s, Harvard professor Frankie Goodman founded Kid Gloves, a program that taught children of all ages. From four-year-olds to street-wise teens, Goodman taught his students the importance of a healthy mind and body, and gave them respect for themselves and each other. He even had a gym in Van Nuys, California, where he trained professionals, including the great Cassius Clay, later known as Muhammed Ali. Tragically, Frankie passed away, but he left the Kid Gloves trademark and exclusive rights to the Kid Gloves philosophy to Robert Ortiz. Robert started Kid Gloves Boxing in his backyard in Simi Valley, California, in the 1990s. To help disadvantaged youth, he started the Kid Gloves Foundation in November of 1997. Located in Center Court at the Simi Town Center, the foundation offers troubled youth the chance to experience success and gives them choices when they are most vulnerable to the pressures of the street. Today, the Kid Gloves Boxing Foundation continues to carry on the legacy of Frankie Goodman, offering a safe and supportive environment for kids to learn the importance of respect and healthy living. It is a testament to the founder’s commitment to giving back to the community.
