About SDPL MISSION HILLS BRANCH LIBRARY in San Diego, CA

The Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Harley & Bessie Knox Library is a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of San Diego. On January 26th, 2019 the library opened its doors to the public and has since become a beacon for the communities of Bankers Hill, Hillcrest, Middletown, Mission Hills and Old Town. This incredible 15,000 square-foot library is named in honor of the late philanthropists Harley and Bessie Knox and is expected to receive a whopping 350,000 visits annually. This modern library offers a range of amenities that are sure to please all parents. It features designated areas for teens and young children, a community meeting space, study rooms, computer labs, drought-tolerant landscaping, and an underground parking garage. Additionally, the library was designed with sustainability in mind and is expected to achieve LEED Gold certification. The Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Harley & Bessie Knox Library is open to everyone and is the perfect place for parents and their children to explore and learn. Summer Reading Program

Discover your voice during the Summer Reading Program! San Diego residents of all ages are encouraged to sign up for this event and use their voices to share their stories, express themselves, and spark change. Complete a combination of 10 books, hours of reading or activities to claim your prizes. Sign-up begins June 1st and the program will last through August 31st.

Library NExT

Library NExT (Network of Education x Training) is a series of workshops for elementary, middle, and high school students on topics including circuits, Python programming language, virology, and 55+ other STEAM courses. Initially started as a pilot program at six San Diego libraries in 2017, it expanded to 24 locations in 2021, and to all City of San Diego library locations in 2022. This San Diego Public Library program is a collaboration with UC San Diego Extension and Sally Ride Science.

Literacy Program for Pre-readers

The San Diego Public Library is pleased to offer an easy, fun and free program that puts children on the path to success. And yes, you can read 1,000 books. If you read just three books a day, you’ll reach your goal within one year. But even if you read just one book per day, you’ll reach the goal of 1,000 books in three years.
